Question

Help!  The message I get when trying to chat on WebCT/Blackboard is that the Java 2 Runtime Environment is not installed.  I have tried to download it without success.

When you get the "JRE not installed" prompt it has a link to the download page. On the download page, you need to select the version of JRE appropriate to your computer. There are usually two of these -  a big one (in terms of Megabytes) and a small one. Choose the small one and download it - if asked whether you want to RUN or SAVE, make sure you select RUN.

Once the download is complete, log out of WebCT/Blackboard and log back in. If it still tells you that JRE is not installed, try ignoring it. Some machines have the correct JRE version, but seem to be oblivious to that fact, and chat actually works fine.
